Although distant from the two deepest Caves of the Park, Golden Pond is considered a silted Cave and is integrated to the others by the groundwater. However, since it is less deep and with a big opening, its crystalline waters form a large pond whose surface reflects the green of its banks, the blue of the sky and the golden tones of the sun in a unique and enchanting way.
Its depth can exceed 05 meters (a level that has been probed). Studies on its sedimentary filling reveal important information about paleofloristic, paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic changes in the region. This is due to the fact that it is located in a transition area from the subtropical to the tropical climatic zone, in which different ecosystems coexist (Araucaria Forest, Grasslands and Savana).
It is a true natural aquarium, full of life, a habitat for hundreds of fish from different species and a refuge for many birds. In addition to being an important breeding site, our sanctuary was named after this because its water mirror reflects different shades of the blue of the sky and the golden of the sun, especially in the late afternoon, offering a very exceptional spectacle of nature.
